Foundation types for wooden houses
The foundation types for building wooden houses are mainly selected according to the geological conditions and structural types. There are some common styles: strip foundation, independent foundation, raft foundation and pile foundation.

Strip foundation
A strip foundation is like a continuous “concrete ribbon” laid along the wall, evenly distributing the weight of the house underground. Its greatest advantages are simple construction, minimal material requirements, and relatively low cost. It is particularly suitable for flat land with firm soil and a low groundwater table.

Independent foundation
Independent foundations are made of separate concrete piers which are placed directly beneath the pillars, independent of each other. One of the advantages of this type foundation is to save cost by reducing material. The construction is flexible and there will be no interference from adjacent foundations. They also require less excavation and minimal disturbance to the land.

Raft foundation
It can evenly distribute the load to the entire foundation. It is suitable for the land with weak foundations or wooden houses with high settlement requirements. The cost is high for this type.

Pile foundation
This type has strong bearing capacity and good stability, but the construction cost is high. It is suitable for high-rise residential buildings, large industrial plants or buildings with strict requirements on foundation settlement, especially on soft soil foundations (such as ponds, swamps, etc.) or in earthquake-prone areas.

Other options
Pine pile foundations can be considered for the area with poor geological conditions. Pine piles can be used to enhance the bearing capacity of the foundation, and the construction cost is lower than reinforced concrete piles.
